Frequently Asked Waterfall Questions
Plastic Features
1. Can an ABS waterfall be turned into a rainfall?

·

Yes, but the only hole spacing option is 1”
2. What is the inlet spacing on ABS falls larger than what is specified on the inlet spacing charts?
·   Inlets begin 12” in from each end and then every 2’
3. Can ABS waterfalls be painted?
·   Yes, with any epoxy based paint
4. Can an ABS waterfall be installed upside down?
·   Yes. Everything remains the same when a waterfall is installed upside down.
5. What are the advantages to using ABS falls?
·   ABS creates a larger projection
·   Less expensive
·   ABS holds up much better in sunlight than the competitor’s PVC falls
6. On a bottom inlet in ABS, what could be a reason for the flow to be weak in the middle of a unit?
·   All ABS bottom inlets should have 1 inlet for every 24" of length.
7. After how many feet does an ABS waterfall need to be installed in the field?
·   20' plus, or when fall is unusual;  i.e., a circle waterfall or very long s-curve.
Metal Features
ArcFalls
1. How can Arcfalls be customized?
·   Arcfalls can be made into rainfalls
·   Arcfalls can have bottom inlets
·   The largest length available is 6’
·   Arcfalls cannot be radiused
2. What is the inlet spacing for Arcfalls
·   2 ft and lower:  1 inlet on center
·   3 ft:  2 inlets, 9" in from each end
·   4 ft:  2 inlets, 12" in from each end
·   5 ft:  3 inlets, 10" in from each end and 1 on center
·   6 ft:  3 inlets, 12" in from each end and 1 on center
3. How many GPM do Arcfalls need?
·   20 GPM/linear foot
4. On an Arcfall, what is the thickness of the lip?
·   1/4"
5. On an Arcfall, how high is the tip of the spout above the top of the unit?
·   1 ¼"
6. What is the min/max size lip that we can add to the throat of an Arcfall?
·   1 ½" minimum
·   12" maximum
Spill Edges
1. Can a corner spill edge be made with any angle?
·   No. We can make a corner spill edge with a 90 deg. corner or larger. We can’t guarantee that the 90 deg. corner will flow. Anything sharper than 90 deg. can’t be made.
2. How many GPM does a corner spill edge need?
·   15 GPM/linear foot (depth can’t be anymore than 3”)
3. What is the min/max depth for Spill Edges?
·   3” depth minimum
·   8” depth maximum for radius
·   14” depth maximum for straight units
4. What is the max length on straight Spill Edges that can be made in one piece?
·   Stainless steel:  10 ft
·   Brass/Copper:  8 ft
Scupper
1. How many GPM does a scupper need?
·   5 GPM
·   Will provide 6-8” of projection
2. What is the size of the lip opening on a scupper?
·   1/8”
General Information:  Metal Waterfalls
 1. What is the inlet spacing for the 3000 series metal?
·   Inlets are located every 2’
2. What gauge metals do we use?
·   Stainless: 14 gauge .075 (3000 series 12 gauge .105)
·   Copper/Brass: 13 gauge .093
3. Do Stainless Steel falls rust?
·   Generally, stainless does not rust. Most times, rust is caused by deposits that are left on the falls from calcium build-up and the deposits then rust. The falls can be cleaned by using a Scotch-Brite pad. When stainless steel falls do rust it is generally along the welds.
4. Is there a minimum lip length for a metal curved vessel?
·   Yes, 3” lip
5. Can brass and copper be polished?
·   No. The only available finishes for brass and copper are brushed or a patina.
6. What are the advantages to using metal falls?
·   “No Drip Lip” prevents water from running underneath the fall, therefore eliminating scale deposits on the wall
·   Metal falls create a smoother sheet of water due to the “free flow” baffle and water compression design
·   Metal falls, when running or turned off, are more visually appealing
7. Is there a minimum lip length for open top waterfalls?
·   Yes, 3” lip is the minimum.
8. Which is stronger, brass or copper?
·   Brass
9. Which metal unit is best used with a salt water filtration system?
·   Copper or Brass
10. Can open-top waterfalls have a polished or patina finish?
·   Polished, No
·   Brushed & Patina, Yes
11. What is the longest SS we can make in one piece?
·   20 ft
12. Can we put inlets on the top of the unit?
·   No.  It will not flow correctly.
General Information:  ABS & Metal Features
1. What size does my catch basin below my waterfall need to be?

·

Length of basin should be 12” longer on each side

·

Width of basin should be ½ the height of the fall

·

Depth should be a minimum of 12” given the above 2 rules are followed
2. How much will my sheet of water taper inward as it falls?

·

For every 3’ of drop, the water will taper in 3” on each side
3. How many GPM do rainfalls need?

·

1” spacing needs 5-7 GPM/linear foot

·

½” spacing needs 7-10 GPM/linear foot

·

¼” spacing needs 10 GPM/linear foot
4. What size are the holes on a rainfall?

·

3/16”
5. How many GPM do corner waterfalls need?
·   Add 5-10 GPM/linear foot to the standard flow rate
6. How far back from the lip opening of the waterfall do the ribs begin?
·   In ABS falls, the ribs begin ¾” back from the lip opening
·   In metal falls, the ribs begin 1 ½” back from the lip opening
7. What is the minimum lip length that must remain after a radius is cut?
·   ABS: 1” of lip must remain
·   Metal: 3” of lip must remain
8. Can we do side inlets on waterfalls?
·   Yes, but only on ABS falls less than 4’ long.
·   Only plastic.  No side inlets on any metal falls (will not flow correctly)
9. What is the smallest radius that can be cut in plastic/metal?
·   24" (2 ft)
10. What is the max lip length for Curved Vessels?
·   12"
11. What is the inlet spacing on 3000 series straight and Curved Vessels?
·   Inlets begin 12" in from each end, and then every 2 ft
12. What is the inlet spacing on 2000 series straight and Curved Vessels?
·   See inlet spacing chart
13. How do I figure out my radius?
·   Your radius is equal to half the diameter (ex: 8' spa = 4' radius)
14. Do we offer fiber optics?
·   We do not offer fiber optics, but you can incorporate a fiber bar with our waterfalls.  Best to be incorporated with our metal units.
