Custom Cascades - 5 Most Asked Questions
1. What size pump do I need?
This question is not simple to answer, the best information is our recommended flow in gallons per minute (GPM), from that the contractor will calculate pump size. Remember that our GPM recommended is the flow rate needed at the waterfall; the individuals plumbing calculations must be applied. All Waterfalls and Spill Edge products require a minimum of 10 GPM per foot of weir opening for a sheet up to 3 feet above the water. Above 3 feet use the 2000 series or 3000 series with a ¼ inch opening and increase the flow 25-30 GPM for up to a 4 ½' drop.
2. How do I figure the radius?
For one reason or another if the builder does not know the radius for a concave or convex waterfall, they should either make a cardboard template of the space where the waterfall is to go (make sure they mark left and right and up and down and water and wall) OR, they should place a straight edge from point to point on the front of the waterfall opening and measure the difference at the center. This information can be used to calculate the radius.
3. Why Stainless Steel?
Our metal design differs from our plastic in three major ways. First the metal design has a "no drip lip", which inhibits water running down the facing and so prevents scale deposits. Second the "free flow" baffle and water compression design of the metal waterfalls provides a smoother clearer sheet than plastic. Third the metal units are a beautiful addition to the environment even when they are not running. The stainless steel tends to be reflective in it's environment, so it virtually disappears, while the copper or brass become decorative accents.
4. Why ABS Plastic?
Resiliency.  Some plastics (like PVC) get brittle from sunlight. ABS holds up in sunlight much better than PVC. Our units are constructed of virgin ABS plastic, the white is a standard color and has UV protectants for discoloration. The gray and tan colors are custom colors made exclusively for Custom Cascades and also have color protection to avoid discoloration over time.
5. Why Custom Cascades over Other Sheeting Waterfalls?
We are the originators of the sheeting waterfall. We make the best waterfalls and back them up with the best service in the industry, period. Only Custom Cascade offers colored ABS plastic, so the units blend into the pools design. Our baffling system allows for small debris to pass through the unit. Other brands are designed to trap this small debris, which may lead to internal clogging. We offer more products and variation than any other manufacture.
